Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected during a visit to Washington Court Docket, the purposes for which it is used, and the situations in which it may be shared. By using the site, you agree to the practices set out below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

If a visitor enters a name or case number in a search tool, that query is sent to the outside provider operating that tool, which processes the request and returns results. Washington Court Docket does not keep a log or store the terms entered into those partner searches.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us is retained so our team can respond. We keep the message within the organization and disclose it outside the team only when a legal duty requires us to do so.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, our servers automatically receive basic technical information about that visit. It may include:

  • The date and time of each page view
  • Your browser and its version
  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The referring site, when one is provided

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them and analytics services to understand overall site use, such as which pages draw visits and where people leave. You can block cookies through your browser settings, though some site functions may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Measuring which pages are useful and where improvements are needed
  • Routing search entries to the service that operates the tool
  • Maintaining site performance and availability
  • Displaying ads that may relate to visitor interests
  • Finding and correcting technical problems

No Court-Record Data on File

Washington Court Docket does not host, maintain, assemble, or sell a database of court dockets or individual case records. It provides general directions to Washington Courts Case Search and to the courts and clerks that hold records across the state's 39 counties. Court case records and public electronic access are governed by court rules, including General Rule 31; the Washington Public Records Act addresses public records held by government agencies. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or files about other people.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information entered in one of those tools is handled under that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. The provider sets its own retention and disclosure practices, which we do not control. Read its policy before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Washington court portals, county clerk resources, legal aid organizations, or outside search services. Following a link takes you to another operator's website, where that operator's privacy policy applies. Review its terms before providing personal information.

Some advertising partners may also follow activity across websites to select ads. Any such tracking is conducted on their services, not on this site.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Depending on how a feature is used, information may be received by:

  • Analytics providers measuring site traffic and performance
  • Outside search providers processing a query entered in their tool
  • Advertising networks serving ads on these pages
  • Law enforcement or government entities when required by valid legal process

How We Protect Your Data

We use common security measures to protect information we collect. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed immune from attack, however, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us information, contact us and we will remove it promptly.

Your Data Rights

Privacy rights can depend on where a visitor lives and the kind of information involved. Applicable law may provide additional protections. Under this policy, you may also:

  • Request deletion of your information
  • Ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Tell us to correct information that is inaccurate
  • Opt out of certain types of data processing

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised from time to time. Any replacement text will appear here and show its effective date. Consult this page for the current description of our data practices.
